MIDI import and export
Bring in a melody to be sung, or take a song's notes out. On iOS, Android and Mac.
Import MIDI
- In New song, choose Advanced and write the Style and Lyrics.
- Tap Import MIDI and choose a .mid or .midi file. On a Mac you can also drop the file on the page.
- Under Tracks, give each track a role.
- Tap Preview to hear it, then Make it.
| Role | The track |
|---|---|
| Voice | Is the melody that's sung |
| Lead instrument | Is played by an instrument |
| Harmony | Sets the chords |
| Ignore | Is left out, like drums |
The file's key, time signature, tempo and length show above the tracks. Play a track to hear it on its own.
Write one note per syllable for the Voice. A warning like Chorus: 12 notes for 20 syllables means a section's notes and words are far apart; Make it still works.
If the melody is longer than Length, the song is made long enough to fit, up to 4:50.
Files with a key change or a time signature change can't be imported.
Edit plan
A plan is a song's notes and chords, written as ABC text. Open it with Edit plan in Import MIDI, on a sketch, or in Song settings ▸ Plan.
Change the notes or chords, tap Preview, then Make it. A problem shows its line, like Line 3: and what's wrong.
Export MIDI
- Song settings ▸ Plan ▸ Export MIDI.
- Or Share, then choose MIDI as the format.
The file has Melody, Instrument, Chords and Bass tracks, the lyrics on the melody and a marker at each section. Songs without a plan don't offer MIDI.
